Mother to Daughter

£5.50

Part II of Clare Penne’s ‘Mother & Daughter’ follows Mattie, influenced by her girlfriend Jane at St. Andrews University. Jane encourages Mattie, an intersex person, to explore her female identity, leading to them moving out of Jane’s dorm into their Thistle Lane cottage with friend Juliette.

Jane starts a ‘dinner companionship’ business, legally selling submissive’s time to affluent visitors. This venture proves successful, leading the girls into the property market. Mattie becomes more involved and befriends client Catherine from Montréal.

Towards the end of Part II, their relationship falters due to Jane’s academic lag. Mattie, on the other hand, excels academically and accepts an offer to pursue a Masters and Doctorate at Georgetown University, following advice from her tutor and Catherine.

Part II concludes with a teaser for Part III and promises many surprises. Clare’s narrative is based on realism, humour, and some sorrow, making it a gripping novel. As the editor, I hope you’ll eagerly anticipate Part III. As Clare would say, “Enjoy!”
