Volume 2 leads on from Volume 1 and 3 from 2 but each is complete in itself and can stand-alone… There is also the possibility for a fourth volume in this sweeping tale of personal discovery and exploration.
Clare brings us the story of a young intersex person, “Cammie”, who was born a male but strongly identifies with being a highly intelligent and talented female – though maybe a little insular given the nature of her early struggle with her own sexuality.
Volume 1 focuses on Cammie’s schooldays and onto taking a scholarship place up at Oxford University to read Modern Languages – as well as what happens when she meets her partner-to-be, Amelia, and how the relationship develops and deepens with Cammie losing her virginities in the ‘truest’ sense with Amelia and others.
What Ms Penne brings us is journey of erotic LGBTQ discovery – with all its joys and travails – written with all the passionate and knowledgeable perspective of a writer who knows wherein of which she speaks.
